Traces is back for Tom Dixon at London Design Festival. This time we've taken on a 'Junk" shop, and you can see and buy some of my designs. Come on down!
Every story,
however hidden, leaves a trace… The objects we leave behind, speak
fragile broken sentences to those who come across them later. Have you
even stood in a museum and longed to make contact with those stories, by
touching the objects so tantalisingly close behind the glass? Have you
ever wandered through a dilapidated and empty building, wishing you
could see it as the last inhabitants left it?
For one week at the Tom
Dixon Dock, 'Traces' will enable you to do just that! Traces presents a
teaser event - the Traces 'Junk' Shop. Come rummage through our
wonderful collection of homewares, all made by some of the best emerging
design talent in the UK, take in the smells around you, interact with
objects, and see what you can discover. Who is the shop keeper, where
did all this stuff come from? And how much does it cost?! So many
questions for you to answer!
You are invited to come
along to discover these histories for yourselves, come rummage at the
junk shop with a difference; wander in the shop, left as if only a
moment before, and unpick its secrets. Interact with the curated
collection of art and design pieces to unravel clues. And don't forget
you can buy your favourites along the way.

TRACES - An immersive and theatrical multi-disciplinary art and design showcase.
'To live is to leave traces,' Walter Benjamin
TRACES is an immersive, and theatrical, art and design showcase. Mapping and elaborating on actual stories of the former inhabitants of our building. Bringing it back to life with smells, tastes, touches and sounds of an age gone by, with commissioned and selected art and design pieces. You are asked to discover these histories; wandering through the rooms left as if only a moment before.
We are currently raising money to make this event even bigger and better, take a look at our sponsume page here and help if you can!
Clues will be sent out in the run up to the event to help you piece together the location, era and characters. Mailing list info@traces-london.co.uk twitter @traceslondon

The new collection aMEND, will be launched during the London Design Festival, at The Residence Gallery in Victoria Park, in September this year. If you would like to be invited to the private view please sign up to the mailing list. The press release is below.
aMEND is the launch of designer/maker Donna Walker's most recent
collection. Following on from previous work questioning the
mass-produced, as well as the value and memories that can be imbedded in
our possessions, aMEND concentrates on the existing beauty, form, and
craftsmanship in old and discarded pieces of furniture. These once
redundant pieces are lovingly transformed with a contemporary twist, in
what can only be described as a colourful blend of decades. The
collection consists of a range of furniture and lighting.
